Health Check

In order to identify opportunities for improvement as insight to the development of GPIs for Apia Port, a review of the port's current performance of 'green status' has been undertaken.

The Green Port Health Check followed the principles set out in international best practice, including ISO14001, as well as recognised certification programmes such as EcoPORTS and Green Marine.

The Health Check provides a score ranging from 0 to 4, with the higher scores representing performance aligned with good international practice.  A target score for Apia Port has been set for each of the green port indicators considering local circumstances and what are considered realistic aspirations.

The Baseline Health Check was completed in September 2022, with the attained score presented in the graphs below.  It is expected that as Apia Port continues along its green port journey, scores will gradually increase and these will ideally reach the target scores at some point in the future. Although a deadline has not been set for achieving the target scores, it is the intention to repeat the Health Check towards the end of the project (i.e. around November 2024) to see what progress has been made during the course of this project.  It is also recommended that the port should continue to carry out Health Check assessments every few years beyond this project.
