Apia Port “Clean Up”
In tandem with the GPI launch, the first GPA campaign was implemented – a Port “Clean Up” day. The “Clean Up” occurred on the morning of Saturday 4 November 2023, with some 70 individuals taking part – including SPA and their family members, and teams from the Stevedore companies and SSC, plus RHDHV and ADB project staff.
The GPAs were all assigned an area of the port and a cleaning team, and each team was provided with equipment (bins, rubbish bags, gloves, rakes etc.). Water was made available on site and operations were controlled and limited. Rubbish gathered was placed centrally and picked up by SPA’s rubbish truck team.
The result was a noticeable improvement in the Port environment, with the removal of a significant amount of food wrappers, cigarette buts, gloves, plastic bottles, glass bottles, scrap metal etc.
Lunch was provided for all those that attended by RHDHV.
