Emergency Preparedness

Emergency preparedness refers to actions that can and should be performed prior to an emergency, such as planning and coordination meetings, procedure writing, team training, emergency drills and exercises, and prepositioning of emergency equipment. Preparedness is essential for an effective response and consists of the following activities:

1. Plan

2. Organize, train and equip

3. Exercise

4. Evaluate and improve

A disaster occurrence within the Port would pose unique interdepartmental challenges and to responding agencies. It is therefore recognised that a coordinated MHDPP is required to provide effective disaster preparedness and response. The purpose of the MHDPP is to establish a framework for a coordinated inter-agency and port community response to a significant disaster incident occurring within SPA's ports.
