GPA initiatives

The GPA’s are encouraged to use their roles to disseminate information on the Green Port Initiative. This has included the introduction of the initiative to the SPA Social Club who, subsequently, held a “planting day” on Friday 1 March 2024 at both Apia Port and the domestic terminal at Mulifanua.

The invitation was open to all Social Club members and participants provided their own plants, while SPA allocated the time for the planting to occur.

This was followed up with a second “clean up and planting” day at the main office in Apia on 15 March 2024. Other initiatives that have been taken include:

• • A “power off” hour was implemented by SPA (at the request of the Social Club) at 4pm on Friday 8 March 2024.

  • The lights in the stevedore offices have been switched to energy efficient LEDs.

  • Jugs of water and glasses are now being used in the Conference Room, rather than single use plastic bottles.

  • GO Green and other posters are being posted on staff notice boards, along with switch off information.
